Addis Ababa Ethiopian Restaurant Now Open In Downtown Plymouth
Update April 10th, 2010: We took the family there last weekend and although the place was a little under-staffed, the food did deliver on the promise of the exotic. As a new restaruant, we like to reserve judgement until things settle down.
It’s official, Plymouth has an Ethiopian Restaurant! Located in Charlestown Square Plaze, the new Addis Ababa promises to add an exotic flavor to the restaurant choices offered in downtown Plymouth. We haven’t had a chance to try the Zilzil Wat or the Defen Yemisir Alecha but we are looking forward to it! You can find Addis Ababa at 273 N. Main St. or call them at 734-414-9935. There’s no sign yet so look for the name on a door on the right hand side of the plaza as you enter.
The Plymouth Canton Symphony Society Presents “Backstage Pass” at the Plymouth Library on Thursday, March 18th 7pm (it’s Free too!)

Update: April 30th 2010: It was nice and warm this evening (and a little windy) – perfect for enjoying a walk into town to the 2010 Green Street Fair. There was live music, food, plenty of booths with everything from recycled Coke can art to rain water cistern systems. For the kids, there was a petting zoo, the cardboard village, and even a cookie decorating station!
The 2010 Plymouth Green Street Fair will be held on April 30th, May 1st & 2nd. This environment focused Fair offers something different for everyone. Everything from hybrid cars to organic food and everything in between. With consumption and production down due to the economy, we’ve actually seen more interest in Sustainability – especially when it saves people money! The Green Fair is one of several street festivals in Downtown Plymouth throughout the year. The area is very walkable with plenty of parks, shops, restaurants, and entertainment. Sun & Snow Now Open in Downtown Plymouth!

Update March 27th, 2010: It’s Diva Day and Sun & Snow had a sneak preview opening. There were plenty of swimming gear for sale and the store is coming along nicely. Too bad winter is already over there and ski season is behind us. We did stop by the Ann Arbor location several times this winter and hoped that the Plymouth location would carry ski equipment but they are keeping that in AA.
Update March 25, 2010: Walking by the new Sun & Snow today, you could see window displays and plenty of merchandise filling the store. All are good signs of an immiment grand opening!
The ebb and flow of business continues in Downtown Plymouth as Sun & Snow takes over the old Parkside Gallery location on the corner of Ann Arbor Trail and Main St. This family owned and operated business will make a great addition to the range of shops and restaurants we already have. Sun & Snow will offer a wide range of sports and outdoors products – including skis which is especially timely for us since our son is learning to ski this year! The renewal of the downtown area is proving that our community has a strong foundation – even with the recession. Penn Saturdays: An Ideal Family Friendly Winter Music and Magic Event Series in Downtown Plymouth
If you and your family like to take in the Friday night concerts in the Park during the summer, here is a great option for the colder months. Very family friendly, these events occur once a month from October to March at Plymouth’s historic Penn Theater. There’s music, magic, and even juggling (today) to entertain both young and old. Winter Gathering at the Historic Wilcox House in Downtown Plymouth Michigan

Plymouth Symphony Orchestra’s Luminary Sale
The Plymouth Symphony Orchestra will be selling Luminaria kits for the holiday season. Each kit will consist of 10 white paper bags as well as 10 candles. The kits can be purchased for $5.00 in Plymouth at Gabriala’s, Saxton’s, Sideways, and The Plymouth Canton Symphony office located at 774 N. Sheldon Road. The Luminaria kits will also be for sale in between the 6:00pm and 8:00pm Plymouth Symphony “Home for the Holidays” POPS concert that will be taking place in the historic Penn Theatre located downtown Plymouth on Thursday, December 17th. The Luminaria kits are available NOW through the 24th of December.
Luminaries are placed along your curb in front of your home at dusk on December 24th. You can use them to line your walks and drives too if you wish. When lots of home have them lit, it’s quite a spectacular sight to see. Hopefully, it won’t be as wet and windy as last year when there wasn’t much of a show. You should also weight down the bags with sand or birdseed to keep them from blowing away. You can also sit the bag on some tin foil to keep the bottom of the bag from getting too soggy if there’s snow. And you’ll need a candle-lighter – especially if it’s windy. David Schwimmer Filming a Movie Today in Plymouth Starring Clive Owen
It looks like Hollywood is back in Plymouth this week with David Schwimmer (Friends) shooting a new movie around Penniman Ave. and Church St. Several of the roads in the area are closed as crews with lots of trucks and equipment work in the area. The movie is called “Trust” and stars Clive Owen, Catherine Keneer, and Viola Davis. This film is expected to be released in 2010.

Update November 23, 2009 – Apparently one of our listings, 908 Penniman, is in the movie so we had to temporarily remove one of our lawn signs today to avoid being in the shot. Too bad – it would have been great to see one of our premier Penniman Ave. listings on the big screen! The movie crew is hard at work tonight along Forest Ave. and will be back in town in December too.
Update – Spoke to some people at lunch who mentioned that the film crews even glued leaves back on the trees. If you drive along Penniman, you’ll find a couple of trees with green leaves in front of one of the homes used for the film.

January 20-22nd in Downtown Plymouth centered around Kellogg Park, you’ll be able to see amazing ice sculptures throughout downtown – plenty of fun for the whole family.
