More than a few of our clients love to watch HGTV’s House Hunters and when the hunt is in the South East Michigan area, it sure can be fun to see familiar places and even faces. Well last week, it was Plymouth’s turn as House Hunters were in town filming at one of our listings on Evergreen. I won’t give away which home they actually bought but look for the episode later this year or early next year!

Old Houses are like Old Cars – To Be Preserved for the Next Generation
There are so many classic homes around Plymouth and Northville that you can lose yourself in the people, history, and stories that accompany each one. Some of these homes have been lovingly maintained and/or restored, others have been expanded and updated, while others are in need of maintenance and care. Whatever their condition, these homes from modest to stately, are part of the community fabric representing the founding families who built them, to the generations of owners who have lived in them since. They are like old cars. Many are from the 1920’s, some from the 1940’s and more from the 1950’s – just like at the recent Concours d’Elegance in Plymouth. Here’s a recent video about a Plymouth resident and her Packard. The driving scenes were filmed around downtown Plymouth’s Hough Park neighborhood – the perfect place for a slow drive down tree-lined streets graced with classic homes. What to do on a blustery winter day if you are minding the children…
The Plymouth-Canton, Northville area has a lot to offer families, but it takes awhile for things to take hold around here.
One event that has is on its 2nd or 3rd year is the “Saturdays at the Penn” musical/variety shows at the historic PENN Theater on Kellogg Park in Downtown Plymouth. Sponsored by the Plymouth-Canton Arts Council (PCAC), The Wilcox Foundation and some other sponsors who care about the arts, it is a great way to spend a couple of hours with the kids taking in some entertainment for all ages. Many a child will be found dancing in the aisles or even getting called to participate on the stage. Jugglers, children-oriented bands, magicians, classical Instrument Demos, and all kinds of acts have performed at this event.
This event was intended to act as an indoor continuation of the Concerts in the Park that happen throughout the summers on Wednesdays. The next concert is on Saturday, February 5th. Doors open at 11:05am and the show begins at 11:30am. You can arrive late if you wish, as it is a casual atmosphere. Tickets are $5 per person. Also available for purchase are popcorn, candy and beverages.
The February 6th concert will be hosted by the ever-popular musician Guy Louis, with featured performances by funny-man juggler Joel Tacey and a special performance of Peter and the Wolf by members of the Celebration Youth Orchestra and Plymouth Uptown Players.

Snow and Culture: See the Plymouth Symphony Chamber Ensemble this Sunday, January 16th, 2011 for Sunday Soiree
Now that you’ve dug out from beneath our latest snow storm, why not spend a delightful Sunday afternoon with the Symphony Chamber Ensemble featuring Harp, Strings & Flute? The program includes a multitude of small, spectacular works from past to present and around the world. The Plymouth Preservation Network Presents “Ghosts of Plymouth”
The PPN is hosting 2 fundraisers. The first, “Ghosts of Plymouth”, a night of good food and spooky stories about the historic places of Plymouth. Tickets are $28 per person and include dinner, one drink and the 30 minute presentation.
The second fundraising event will be a luncheon held the following Tuesday, October 26th at noon. This will be a book signing with local author and psychic medium Kristy Robinett. Lunch tickets will be $15 per person and will include lunch and one, non-alcoholic beverage. Kristy will also be selling and signing copies of her book, “Ghosts of Southeast Michigan.”

- Scream 4 Now Shooting in Northville MI
Updated: September 1st, 2010: The Scream 4 crew is back – this time in Northville along Clement. The crew will be onsite for the next few weeks and filming in the evenings/nights.
Updated: July 19th, 2010: The crowds of extras were all over downtown Plymouth today. Lots of Woodsboro police cars and news vans littered the streets. It was all a bit surreal since living in Plymouth is like being in a movie everyday with the beautiful homes, shops and parks. The faux Police Station actually looks pretty good – certainly better than an empty lot!
Scream 4 is now filming in Northville and Plymouth Michigan. Scenes are being shot all over including the Next Chapter Bookstore and Bistro in Northville and a new faux store front beside the Box Bar in Plymouth. Filming in Plymouth around Kellogg Park will take place on Monday and Tuesday – if you’re lucky, you might even catch a glimpse of stars Courteney Cox and David Arquette around town!

2010 Art in the Park in Downtown Plymouth Michigan July 9,10, & 11
Update July 10th, 2010: This year’s event seems bigger and better than ever with perfect summer weather too! The booths seems to be taking over more and more of downtown and combined with the new stores – there’s plenty to see.
It’s summer in Plymouth (starting officially today on the Summer Solstice) and Art in the Park is coming soon. Downtown streets and parks will be transformed into rows of artists and craftsmen displaying their work and wares for all to see and purchase. In addition to the vendors – visitors to town will be able to enjoy all the new shops and restaurants that have appeared in the past year. New Compass in Downtown Plymouth
Well it’s nearly finished – the new compass in downtown Plymouth! It certainly is a dramatic statement. The construction continues… but it’s actually not difficult to park and now you can see the new compass.
Plymouth and Northville Farmer’s Markets
It’s that time of year again (although you wouldn’t know it by today’s windy weather!). The Northville Farmer’s Market started this week (Thursday mornings at the parking lot across from Northville Downs) and the Plymouth Farmer’s Market started today (Saturday mornings at the Gathering beside the Penn).
Both of these markets provide an opportunity to buy local and buy fresh and enjoy a morning out with the family.
