Northville Real Estate Values Continue to Increase in the first 4 months of 2014

Through the first 4 months of 2014, Northville real estate prices continue to surge upward.  Median sales prices for residential homes are now near or at pre-recession levels across the area – both the City and Township. The supply of resale homes also continues to show improvement in the Township while the City still suffers a shortage of available homes.  The data below clearly illustrates that values have continued to increase while the Township has shown a sharp increase in median sales price.  This is mainly due to more high value homes transacting vs. previous years. With prices increasing so high and so quickly, it’s difficult to predict how much higher the market can go.  So it’s more important then ever to ensure the home you buy truly meets your current and future needs in terms of location, functionality, and resale potential.

East meets West: Plymouth’s Iconic Cozy Cafe now has Sushi

Plymouth’s downtown Cozy Cafe is well known to locals and walking by today, you’ll notice a pretty significant name and menu change. So if you are in the mood for some Beef Bulgogi, look no further than the Cozy Cafe!  Of course, other restaurants in the area also offer sushi, sashimi and other Asian inspired menu items. But I believe this is the only Korean menu in the downtown Plymouth Area. We’ll let them get settled and then stop by and give the Kimchi a try.

Plymouth Restaurant Businesses Making Changes

A downtown Plymouth landmark, Doyle’s on Fralick is now the new Stella’s Black Dog Tavern. And that’s just one of the many changes happening right now in the City.  The old Grecian Cafe at 413 N. Main is moving dramatically upscale re-opening soon as Aqua.  Panache on Forest is now the Bamboo and the closed Rock Bar on Penniman has become the latest location for The Post Local Bistro. So the restaurant scene in Plymouth continues to show vitality as new and current business owners are investing in upgraded facilities, updated menus, and new branding. This kind of turnover is healthy in an industry that is constantly changing in order to attract and keep existing and new customers happy. The City of Plymouth continues to draw people from all over the metro Detroit area and around the country as people re-locate to Michigan for jobs. After a very long and cold winter here, these businesses are all well-timed to take advantage of the coming Spring season.

Film of Downtown Plymouth from 1969

For those of you new to the Plymouth area and for long time residents alike, here’s an interesting film that was shot in 1969 (the year of my birth) on Super 8 (that’s a size of movie film) thanks to Rene Litalien, who was an 11th grader at Plymouth High School that year when he shot the video.  It shows a lot of the local businesses, cars, and beverages of the era – some of which are still around (ex. Box Bar, Wiltse’s Pharmacy). And Patrick, my car guy husband, noticed what appears to be a new Plymouth Superbird on a dealer lot! We should definitely add that song, “Small Town”, by John Mellencamp, to go with the video…

Festive Movies at Plymouth’s Downtown Penn Theatre

grandopeningOne of the landmark attractions of downtown Plymouth, the Penn Theatre opened in 1941 and continues to offer locals and visitors alike a great selection of motion pictures – all for just $3 a ticket.  The movie house has been steadily upgraded over the past several years including digital projection and sound, a new marquee, re-imagined murals, and a complete auditorium renovation.

So if you are trying to think of a way to entertain everyone over the holidays, visit the Penn Theatre for some Christmas classics. The movies Elf, A Christmas Story, and Polar Express will all be playing these last weeks leading up to Christmas.

On December 13-15th bring your kids, friends, parents and cousins to see Buddy the Elf on the big screen once again! Syrup anyone? A Christmas Story will be featured December 19th and 20th. See your town cemented in history by the Red Ryder BB Gun (manufactured at the Daisy Air Rifle Factory) Ralphie so desperately wanted to see under his Christmas tree. December 21-22 the Polar Express will roll into town. Travel to the North Pole with Tom Hanks right to Santa’s own home and believe in the magic of Christmas once again!
