Jacques’ Taco Truck – Homegrown Chef Returns to Create New Venture

Jacques Taco Truck logoPermanently searching for new and different food options in the area, my ears perked up a couple of weeks ago during an open house when some clients told me about Jacques’ Taco Truck and that they were heading there for lunch that day.  Back in the mid 90’s, in Boston & Cambridge, MA, I was introduced to the notion of food trucks that deliver something more than just pre-packaged, microwaved food options.  At that time, it was food trucks that would park near the corporate headquarters of various employers at lunch time, serving mainly ethnic foods.  Long lines of hungry office workers awaited the delicious meals to be eaten outside on a nice day or back at the office when necessary.  Well, Jacques’ Taco truck has taken this to yet a higher level, at least for my experiences.  In fact, the owner of this business, Wes Holton, is a homegrown Michigan guy, and a Michelin-starred chef with experience working in New York, Vegas & Miami.  He even spent years training with Daniel Boulud and working in his famous restaurants in Florida and Vegas.

The truck posts its daily metro Detroit locations on Facebook and Twitter and so I stalked those until I found a day and location that fit my schedule.  The truck was parked in the parking lot of an auto repair shop in the Old Village part of Plymouth, near Main & Starkweather streets.  It was a pretty nice day, although a little chilly, so I ordered up two tacos – a “Little Piggie” and a “Bulldog” to sample a pork and a chicken version.  Check out the menu on the website for the details, but yes, they were every bit as good as I’d expected.  I could’ve used an extra corn tortilla to enjoy the extras that didn’t stay in my tacos, but next time, I’ll just ask for a few extra chips (they do come with a few tasty tortilla chips too).  Fresh ingredients with subtle flavors – I did want more but I held back for the next time.  Just hoping that Jacques’ tacos will find more locations to visit, especially near local parks where guests can find a quiet bench or table to enjoy the food.  Thanks Wes for coming back to this area and sharing your good food with your hometown crowd!  WE LOVE IT!
